Dr. Bruce Grandstaff is married to Victoria who works with him in the front office. They have two children who have grown up in the office — Makayla age 18, and Sabrina age 16.
After graduating from high school Dr. Bruce joined the Air Force. His aptitude scores placed him in the medical field and he volunteered for Physiological Training which was involved in teaching flight crews about the physiological effects of altitude (which happen to be similar to the effects of respiratory disease) using an altitude chamber.
Upon leaving the Air Force he worked in hospitals as a Respiratory Therapist while attending college classes that earned him a degree in Respiratory Therapy in the Bay Area of California. He worked at various hospitals including Stanford University and the Kaiser Hospital system for 20 years.
After meeting some chiropractors who were friends he learned of their successes with asthmatic patients simply by adjusting the spine and effecting the nerves to the lungs. Fascinated by this noninvasive drugless treatment Dr. Bruce changed course and entered Life West Chiropractic College graduating with honors in 1992.
As he treated patients over the years he felt that there was something missing. He realized that in many cases he saw that just adjusting the spine wasn’t enough. He questioned why the spine on some patients kept going out and resisted stabilizing. Learning muscle response testing and Applied Kinesiology in 2000 and 2001 allowed Dr. Bruce to literally ask questions of the body and get answers that he couldn’t get otherwise. As he started attending seminars that problem solve using these techniques he found many of the pieces that he knew were missing, notably the Brimhall “6 Steps to Wellness” seminars. He became the first Certified Brimhall technique Doctor in Idaho and the 2nd to have a cold laser in North Idaho. This totally revolutionized Dr. Bruce’s practice which is quite unique. The emphasis is on finding and clearing the underlying reasons why the spine and joints of the body go out of alignment which allows the body to return to homeostasis.
Dr. Bruce has developed a list of “usual suspects” that can cause the recurrence of subluxations including emotions, TMJ, hiatal hernia, etc. and in 2014 came to the inescapable truth that stressed organs and glands also can cause misalignments of the spine much as electrical stress can throw a breaker switch. This was confirmed when Dr. Bruce started attending Nutrition Response Testing® training developed by Dr. Freddy Ulan. Dr. Ulan had published an article in the American Chiropractor magazine in May 2006 that had this quote: “More often than you might imagine, the chronically recurring subluxation is simply the effect of a ‘viscerosomatic’ (organ/gland – spine) reflex.”
In 2012, Dr. Bruce Grandstaff became aware of the totally new and unique Morphogenic Field Technique, originating in Port Angeles, Washington, developed by Dr. Frank Springob and Autumn Smith. Dr. Bruce has attended several of their training seminars to master the technique.
More recently, in 2015, he was introduced to Nutrition Response Testing®, developed by Dr. Freddy Ulan, which in Dr. Bruce’s opinion had important principals that were missing in other energy medicine techniques and has allowed him to crack some of the most difficult cases of his career.
If there is anything that can describe Dr. Bruce professionally it would be an unrelenting quest for better, more advanced ways of helping his patients achieve health. Disenchantment with the medical (“name it, claim it, frame it”) approach to health issues which has failed miserably and he had observed for 20 years has fueled this passion. He wholeheartedly agrees with this quote by Wendel Berry which he shares with all his new Nutrition Response Testing® patients: “People are fed by the Food Industry which pays no attention to health, and are treated by the Health Industry which pays no attention to our food.”
Dr. Bruce believes firmly in walking the walk if you are talking the talk. He and his family eat organically and are now growing some of their own food. He loves teaching and sharing his knowledge of health, healing and nutrition. He feels blessed to have married Victoria who also shares a passion for learning about nutrition and health and has been with Dr. Bruce to most of the wellness seminars he has attended.
